The Director of the University of Algiers 3 signed today, Thursday, December 07, 2023, with Ms. Maya Manna, Director of Russia Today Arabia TV channel, a memorandum of understanding including many areas of cooperation between the university and the channel, in the presence of channel officials such as the Deputy Director of Programs and Cooperation, the Central Editor-in-Chief, the Director of the channel’s regional office in Africa, as well as the Vice-Rector for External Relations, the Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication, and executives from the university’s rectorate and the faculty.
This cooperation memorandum, the first of its kind for the university and the faculty, includes:
- Short-term training programs for university students.
- Organization of training courses for faculty members to improve professional skills and exchange experiences.
- Organization of training courses for students (online and face-to-face at the faculty) to enhance their media skills.
- Invitation of representatives from the channel to supervise students’ graduation projects.
After signing the memorandum, the University Director, Professor Khaled Rouaski, stressed the importance of expanding areas of cooperation between the university and the channel, such as conducting practical internships for top students in all promotions, especially the special English-language group, and internships for audiovisual teachers.
He also mentioned the creation of a studio equipped with all technologies for media teaching and the opening of several specialties such as artificial intelligence journalism. The university director also pointed to the possibility of teaching the Russian language at the university’s intensive language center.
The channel’s director expressed her deep satisfaction with the signing of the memorandum with the university and said she is ready to open all areas of cooperation in the media field with the Faculty of Information and Communication Science, such as exchange visits and organizing workshops and internships for teachers and students.
It should be noted that the cooperation agreement between the university and Russia Today is the first of its kind and opens up wide prospects for professors and students of the Faculty of Information to cooperate with one of the largest news channels in the world.
